About this work

"Face to Face" is the exhibition of Daniel El Dibujo and Bran Solo's latest works.

It does not consist of a collective show, like the ones they usually organize with their Circle of Artists Paloma Negra. Neither is it a group intervention, where each one contributes with an idea. It is not even an exhibition of two artists. This is something else.

"When we work together, we are actually separated. Each one in his own world, as it happens to us more often than we would like, but doing the same thing, thinking about the same thing, fearing for the same thing and connected without knowing why.

When we started in the world of illustration we were even confused in graphic style, there were even those who thought we were the same person. We both met drawing in a similar way, and that connected us even more.

We've worked a lot in the last four years, and we've changed a lot since we started. However, our dreams are still the same, and our characters are still trapped in the same universe as they were then, sometimes the same even for both of us.
That being the case, we wanted to make an exhibition, as a test of our state, of photography in our journey, to record the point at which we are and, moreover, we wanted to do it by working together, letting us see that imaginary world that connects us and doing it from both sides of the same canvas.

We have both composed the same works, in two versions, to give our most personal point of view. We do not feel that it is an intervention between two, since each pair of works has the same soul. Rather, it is an individual exhibition, made between two.

Perhaps those who thought we were the same artist were right."

Daniel El Dibujo's works accompany those of Bran Solo, almost inseparably, in a symbolic conversation about art, fear, love, death, desire or loneliness. They do so in a binary format, where the works of an artist connect with those of his partner, each with his own universe, but colliding at the same point.

⚫ Key to symbols in Bran Sólo's work ⚫

The sea: Infinite place of calm, love, perfection, home.

Teeth/molars: Pain.

Tentacle: Attempt to reach, to contain, to catch.

Houses: The home that is left behind and to which we can never return. Sometimes it burns and disappears, other times it waits to be swallowed up by a wave.

Hand with an open eye: Hope.

Key: Secrets.

Pair of swifts: Love, dependence, union, partnership.

Big ears: Reason why the character, without any doubt, has to be a good person. A child with big ears has to learn to be a good person to survive.

Marks or shadow under the eyes: Sadness.

Marks on the neck: Beard, maturity, manhood.

Circle in the throat: Anxiety.

Narwhal: Narwhals cannot kiss each other.

Shipwreck: The frustration of unrequited love.

Constellations: Guide to understanding the incomprehensible.

Red plant (Man's love): The emotions that try to escape, to grow.

Deformed eye, erased: Reference to the artist's visual disorder. Fear of blindness. Unique point of view.
