About this work

The Triste series talks about the frustration of imposed masculinity. How we are expected to be strong, brave, independent, protective, determined... when, in many cases, we are sensitive, dependent, and need the affection of others. All aspects of masculinity, physical and emotional, can be seen in this series. However, symbols and situations are used that make it clear that the men in the scenes are not what they seem.

⚫ Key to symbols in Bran Sólo's work ⚫

The sea: Infinite place of calm, love, perfection, home.

Teeth/molars: Pain.

Tentacle: Attempt to reach, to contain, to catch.

Houses: The home that is left behind and to which we can never return. Sometimes it burns and disappears, other times it waits to be swallowed up by a wave.

Hand with an open eye: Hope.

Key: Secrets.

Pair of swifts: Love, dependence, union, partnership.

Big ears: Reason why the character, without any doubt, has to be a good person. A child with big ears has to learn to be a good person to survive.

Marks or shadow under the eyes: Sadness.

Marks on the neck: Beard, maturity, manhood.

Circle in the throat: Anxiety.

Narwhal: Narwhals cannot kiss each other.

Shipwreck: The frustration of unrequited love.

Constellations: Guide to understanding the incomprehensible.

Red plant (Man's love): The emotions that try to escape, to grow.

Deformed eye, erased: Reference to the artist's visual disorder. Fear of blindness. Unique point of view.
